Psalm 107:9 “For he satisfies the longing soul and fills the hungry soul with good things.“
Welcome to our simple little West Texas farm, “Built for Hungry Tummies!”
It all started with Bob, a humble man who lived a secluded yet peaceful life in his small country home in Miles, Texas.
Just him, a rocking chair, and a TV set, all alone in the middle of nowhere.
As a child, I remember my parents driving over 45 miles every weekend to deliver food to him. A few grocery items here, and some “fish fry,” his favorite there.
Every weekend like clockwork. We would make a quick and quiet visit to his house. He had nicknames for my siblings and I. Mine was Tadpole, my brother was Squirrel, and my sister was Crawfish.
My parents did this every weekend for years and years, and it was almost like a weekend family outing for us. As I got a little older, I started wondering… why do we come all the way out here every weekend? I was a teen and felt I had so much better use of my time. It was then that my parents explained to me that he had no one to help him. He had no transportation, no family, and no one who cared if he ate or not. My parents met him somewhere, somehow, and they took it upon themselves to do the right thing, making sure he had the food he needed until the time came when he was called to his heavenly home. My parents made sure this kind, gentle, and humble man in the middle of nowhere didn’t suffer from hunger and lived out his life in peace and fulfillment.
Such a valuable lesson that will forever be ingrained in my heart!
It is the small glimpse Got had instilled that is our mission today.
I’m sure you know someone like Bob who could certainly use a little extra help.
At the Farm, the Community Farm Fresh Box Program provides free weekly boxes containing nutritious food items across all basic food groups, as well as hygiene products, to those in need in our 19-county radius.
The program aims to support the community, and interested individuals can apply through our food assistance page.
Donations are encouraged due to the high demand, which can lead to some recipients being placed on a waiting list. Eligibility for the boxes is based on income, need, and availability.
